PEOPLE AND CULTURE report

It was a privilege to join an organisation with such a rich history that continues to deliver high quality and safe services and programs through a valued team of exceptionally committed and capable people.

Implementing a new People and Culture structure during this year provided the opportunity to partner with the teams across Lady Gowrie Tasmania (LGT) to ensure that services to support all people management activities were delivered through a range of new and reviewed systems and processes that are fit-for-purpose.

Recruitment and retention strategies were a key focus during the year as LGT continued to adapt and respond to the workforce challenges faced in the sector.

During the year a range of compliance, contractual and industrial relations activities were assessed and mapped to ensure that policy and process development was aligned with organisational need.

A strong focus on people management solutions that made sense for the organisation was maintained so that all people management activities were aligned with developing the capability of our valued workforce and linked to the philosophy of ‘Children First’.

A renewed approach to injury management and workers’ compensation was implemented during the year to ensure that employees were supported to manage day-to-day risks relating to injury and a strong focus on returning to work in a supported way.

I would like to thank the People and Culture team for their dedication and professionalism in their work this year and for their incredible support of LGT’s valued workforce.

2023 HELEN STEPHEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

At Lady Gowrie Tasmania (LGT)’s 2023-24 Annual General Meeting (AGM) Anne Beach, Chair Board of Directors, had the honour of announcing Kate Beckett as the recipient of the 2023 Helen Stephen Memorial Scholarship. Kate joined LGT in 2014 and has since completed both her Certificate III and Diploma in Education and Care and is now studying towards her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. Kate shares:

“Completing my degree will equip me with a deeper understanding of child development and effective planning strategies. I plan to use this knowledge to inspire my colleagues by sharing valuable insights that can enhance their teaching methods. My goal is to help them recognise the link between their teaching and children’s development, ultimately motivating and supporting their professional growth.”

Helen Stephen was the Kindergarten Teacher at LGT Battery Point for 25 years and during this time she played an important role in the lives of many children and their families. She also influenced the pedagogy and practice of many early childhood professionals with whom she came into contact. Helen’s legacy will live on through many of her qualities that resonated with those who were fortunate to have known, loved and worked with her.

To honour this legacy, LGT provides a scholarship in Helen’s memory which is awarded annually to a LGT educator who has committed to undertake study towards gaining an early childhood degree qualification. We thank the Stephen family for their attendance each year at the AGM in support of the scholarship program and the recipient announcement. During the year, Nic Stephen’s appointment to the Board was a wonderful addition to the rich history between LGT and the Stephen family.

Congratulations Kate and we look forward to following your professional and learning journey at Lady Gowrie Tasmania over the coming years.
